AMMO BOX ver. 1.0
Ammo Box is a shareware utility which provides information on various cartridges, firearms related terms, and firearms related formulas. For the gun shop, it is indispensable!

AMMO GUIDE ver. 3.0
This is a small-arms ammunition database with GUI-based front end.

The program is freely distributable, but all rights are reserved.

The goal of this program is to be a technically-accurate reference engine that is easy, interesting and fun to use. The program programmatically calculates the graphic images for any small-arms caliber cartridge in it's (extensible) database and displays it in characteristic brass coloring in high-resolution graphics.

AMMO GUIDE ver. 3.0 Updates
Most recent updates to the above program

ARMSCALC ver. 4.0.1
ArmsCalc is a comprehensive tool to estimate and graph how a projectile will behave under predetermined circumstances. You can graphically compare loads with different bullet types, weights, charges, etc. for remaining energy and velocity, elevation, trajectory, etc.

Results obtained from this program are mathematically correct, but may differ from actual field testing. Many factors may be unknown or unable to be calculated, but they still affect the ballistics of a round. For example, the barrel length and twist of rifling affects the stability of a round, while the exact diameter of bore and bullets vary from weapon to weapon and round to round, even within the same caliber.

ArmsCalc, used in conjunction with ArmsLoad, gives you the ability to track actual performance of reloaded shells and make accurate estimates of the bullet performance for different ranges and conditions.

ARMSRELOADER ver. 4.0.1
The Reloader is designed to bridge the gap between reloading manuals and good record keeping, The Reloader is both a stand alone package that computes loads, or as an add on to ArmsLoad providing complete load data computed for Speer, Nosler, Sierra, Hornady and Lyman cast bullets with other combinations soon to be available.

The Reloader is available as Handgun Data, Rifle Data and Shotgun Data. After looking up a load, the data may be saved to the ArmsLoad database.

ArmsLoad is designed to track performance of shotshell and metallic cartridge loads, calculate cost comparisons, analyze chronograph and target data. When used in junction with ArmsCalc the performance of the load is estimated and input for the shooter. Combined with The Reloader the shooters dreams have come true.

BALCAL DEMO ver. 6.2d
BalCal 6.2, a combination of a user friendly exterior ballistics package and training software for hunters, snipers, target shooters, plinkers, and GI's. Generate precise data for your loads in your firearms. Then use that same data to learn hold over, wind compensation, lead, and up/down hill firing effects by 'firing' at a variety of target images with randomized conditions.

BALLISTIC ver. 4.13
W. R. Frenchu's comprehensive smallarms ballistics program for PCs and compats. Compute 30+ exterior ballistic functions (several displayable graphically) using any of 5 different drag functions (including G7 for the new VLD bullets). New in 4.10: windage diagrams (wind roses), negative sight heights (for laser sights), online help, more!

BALLISTIC EXPLORER DEMO ver. 5.5.4
The DEMO version is limited to working with BC values of 0.1 and 0.5 +/- 0.01 (two ranges of 0.090 to 0.110, and 0.490 to 0.510). You can enter other values, but the program will round them to either 0.1 or 0.5 when it calculates downrange values. From Oehler.

BALLISTIC SIMULATOR DEMO
Ballistic Tables creates trajectory tables with the correct sight setting for various shooting distances and environmental conditions. The sight settings adjusted from a known zeroing distance, muzzle velocity, bullet type, temperature, and altitude to any new shooting distance, angle or environmental condition.

This program creates trajectory tables and graphs according to:

You get sight adjustment for

  • Scope Clicks
  • Mildot

You can print a table which does Mildot range estimation, and tells you what scope adjustment or holdoff you need, without any arithmetic! You can print a table to use non-Mildot crosshair width as a poor man's Mildot. There are calculators for Point Blank Range, and Chronograph to Muzzle Velocity conversion.

BARNES BALLISTIC DEMO ver. 2.0.8
Probably the poorest piece of software as far as commercial reloading programs is concerned! (I even BOUGHT version 3.0, and they sent it to me on 5-1/4" floppies! When I asked for either 3-1/2" floppies or a CD, they told me I had to buy another version.)

Coni, a co-owner of Barnes, requested that I amend my remarks and evaluation of their software.

Coni told me I never was told I had to buy a complete new copy of their software in order to receive either an updated copy or different media.

Well, Coni, I did buy the software, I did send in the registration form, I also asked at that time for a different media format, and I also inquired about an upgrade, since you guys decided to release a new version shortly after I purchased my copy. (Like within 2 weeks.)

And, Coni, the response I received from Barnes was, "You will have to purchase another full retail version...Barnes does not offer upgrades or optional media types."

BORDER BARRELS BALLISTIC SUITE
LOAD.EXE: This uses Powley's algorithms to calculate a load.

EXTBAL.EXE: This uses a Powley straight line drag curve to calculate trajectories. Use G1 Ballistic Coefficients that are valid for 3000 ft/sec.

This program is tailored good for "sharp" projectiles with boat tails, not blunt hunting bullets. The program will work for flat based bullets with "sharp" points as well though, so long as they are well above the trans-sonic zone (1400 ft/sec).

This program is valid for supersonic velocities above 1200 ft/sec. but gives fair results down to 800 ft/sec. It should not be used where the terminal velocity is below 800 ft/sec.

22EXTBAL.EXE: This program assumes a standard 40 grain .22 rimfire bullet and a subsonic muzzle velocity.

RELBURN.TXT: This program compares burning rates of a variety of powders from the fastest burning at the top to the slowest at the bottom.

TWISTCAL.EXE: This program computes the stability of a given projectile over a range of velocities.

BULLET SIMULATOR DEMO ver. 1.0
Bullet Simulator is a program designed by and for shooters to help you understand, predict and optimize the ballistic performance of your rifles. Using a mathematical model of bullet flight, you prepare for hunts by designing the best bullet path for your rifle, bullet and conditions. The result is that you can concentrate on the target, not on the bullet path. A maintainable library of bullets for both factory and custom loads is included. The easy-to-use program is menu-driven, with on-line help and results interpretation.

This demo version has all the functionality of the registered version, except that the cartridge and bullet are fixed. All other features of the program can be used to give a complete impression of its usefulness. Your cost of this demo version is refunded by Applied Ballistics when you become a registered owner; you receive a full-featured program, a printed User's Guide with examples, mail support and upgrade notices.

Bullet Simulator runs on true IBM-compatibles with DOS version 2.0 or later, 256K RAM and two diskette drives. IBM-compatible graphics adapters and a printer are supported but not required.

EXTERIOR BALLISTICS DEMO ver. 4.10
EBV4 (the letters stand for Exterior Ballistics Version 4) is the fourth version of a computer program, which will run on all IBM MS-DOS PCs or compatibles. It calculates trajectories of bullets or other objects (e.g. fragments) moving through the atmosphere. EBV4 can be applied to any of three physical trajectory models:

The Vacuum Ballistics Model (VBM) introduced into physics by Galileo Galilei, which assumes the presence of the force of gravity only.

The Point Mass Model (PMM), which assumes the presence of two forces: the aerodynamic drag and the force of gravity.

The Modified Point Mass Model (MPMM), which additionally considers effects of spin, e.g. the spin-dependent side drift.

The MPMM also takes into account the lift force, but assumes that the yaw angle (the angle enclosed between the tangent to the trajectory and the bullet's longitudinal axis) remains small over the whole trajectory. The application of the MPMM is restricted to conical and ogive nose shapes, for which the necessary aerodynamic coefficients can be estimated from semi-empirical formulas. EBV4 does not support the mostly advanced 6-Degrees-of-Freedom (6DOF) model, as in most practical cases, the whole set of aerodynamic coefficients applicable to this model is not available.

FEDERAL 2005 INTERACTIVE AMMUNITION & BALLISTICS CATALOG
Paper catalogs are great, but by their nature they're static and usually show downrange ballistics only for standard conditions. And unless you hunt or shoot at sea level and 59º F, you're left guessing about the downrange performance of the loads you use. Instead of leaving you guessing, Federal teamed up with Dexadine.com, makers of the Ballistic Explorer software, to offer hunters and shooters this innovative interactive catalog. Now you can select the altitude, temperature, and sight height that correspond to where you actually shoot and your gun's actual sight height.

GROUP SIZE CALCULATOR ver. 1.11
The Group Size Calculator is used to calculate group size, average radius, the Standard deviation of shots from group center, and the group center when given a file consisting of a sequence of shots.

One can either reference a pre-saved file with the (X,Y) coordinates of each shot listed, or a scanned bitmap (*.bmp) picture of the target.

HEAVY METAL SOFTWARE LITTLE LOAD BOOK ver. 2.0 DEMO
Included in the Little Load Book you will find reloading data from Accurate Arms®, Alliant Powder®, Hodgdon Powder®, IMR Powder®, and Ramshot Powder®.

HEAVY METAL SOFTWARE RELOAD INVENTORY CLERK ver. 4.0 DEMO
How you use the Reload Inventory Clerk. Easy, just create load files to store the information about the loads you develop. For example, you can create load files by caliber or by gun. The Reload Inventory Clerk takes advantage of long file names which allows you to name your files any way you want.

Once you have created a load file all of the work is done inside of The Hand Load Dialog©. As you can see, The Hand Load Dialog records all of the vital information about the hand loads you develop. There is no limit to the number of loads you can put in each load file you create. Also, there is no limit to the number of load files you can create. Everything in the Reload Inventory Clerk is industrial strength.

Completely new is the ability to graph your loads, print Range Papers. Fill in the load specifics for a load record within The Hand Load Dialog, print the range papers, and go to the range to test your load. Use the range papers to record your information while at the range. Take the range papers home and enter the information into the Hand Load Dialog. The Hand Load Dialog will then compute all of the statistics for your load.

The Reload Inventory Clerk also gives you the ability to account for shooting supplies, shooting equipment, loading supplies, and loading equipment. What types and how much of each type of powders do you have on hand? To find out, simply go to the Powders Inventory Dialog. How many rounds of .45 ACP do you have on hand? Are these loads loaded with hollow-points or semi-wadcutters? Once again, go to the Loaded Rounds Dialog to find out. The Reload Inventory Clerk gives you the ability to record these kinds of questions. Other examples of inventory types include: primers, brass, .22 Ammo, reloading dies, and more. Each inventory type or all inventory types can be sent to the printer for a hard copy of your supplies.

Version 4 also includes our Load Run Wizard©. What is the Load Run Wizard? The Load Run Wizard allows you to record loading sessions. For example, lets say that you load 100 rounds of 9mm Luger. You would use the Load Run Wizard to record this loading session. When you start the Load Run Wizard you select the following items that were used for the loading session: powder, how much powder per round(grains), primers, brass, and bullets. The Load Run Wizard will even assign a Lot Number to your loading session. Once you are done selecting the components used for the loading session, you simply click the OK Button to have the Load Run Wizard record the loading session.

So what does The Load Run Wizard record? Once you click the OK Button on The Load Run Wizard, all of the components selected during the Load Run Wizard session are adjusted to reflect the quantity used for the loading session. Finally, the Load Run Wizard adds the rounds loaded to your Loaded Rounds Inventory. All of the fields for the Loaded Rounds are even filled in for you reflecting the results of the load run. Within the Comments Field is a full description of what the rounds consist of; the powder used, the primers used, etc.

The Reload Inventory Clerk also includes our Shotgun Load Run Wizard©. The Shotgun Load Run Wizard functions exactly as the Load Run Wizard but is used for recording shotgun loading sessions.

INSITE/BALLISTICS ver. 2.7
Welcome to the wonderful world of exterior ballistics on your Personal Computer! On-line help is available everywhere except the graphics screens by simply pushing F1! The help will tell you when libraries are available. The libraries contain velocities, ballistic coefficients, common firearms weights, and caliber as given by various manufacturer's literature.

Does lots of neat calculations. Excellent for reloaders and those that need to know how a load performs at different ranges.

LEE PRECISION BALLISTICS CALCULATOR
This ballistic calculator is the simplest of any that I have reviewed. It rapidly provides excellent information without any unnecessary complicated input of time, temperature, barometric pressure, wind, barrel angle etc. While these all have an effect, the amount is insignificant and usually not available while at your computer. Even at the extremes, these other factors effect bullet drop a tiny percentage of the variances caused by ammunition, rifle and shooter. The ease of use makes it a highly desirable accessory. The most useful aspect of any ballistic program is to calculate the optimum distance to "Zero" your rifle. This program does it very well.

LOAD FROM A DISK DEMO ver. 4.0.0
Load From a Disk has been solving tough cartridge loading and ballistic problems for the shooter/reloader for well over fifteen years. During this period the program has been improved and expanded several times (thanks primarily to feedback from users such as yourself). This latest Windows version includes the following features:

A powerful Internal Ballistics section that can be utilized by reloaders to determine cartridge case capacities and cartridge load information (such as pressures and muzzle velocities at various load densities, and available powders).

A selection of over 50 powders are included in Cartridge Loading. Loading for any given cartridge will cover two to ten powders. The program displays loads for both a primary and an alternate group of powders. The alternate loading table calculates pressures and velocities for both the suggested powder group and the alternate powder group. This information is calculated for loading densities of 75% to 100%. Loads which may generate overpressure are designated.

The Case Capacity section includes a built-in cartridge database covering nearly one hundred cartridges. Coupled with the program's data storage and retrieve features allow the user to construct an extensive library of cartridge information.

By utilizing Case Measurements, a user can quickly determine the full case capacity of any cartridge. This full case capacity can be quickly refined to determine the effective,or net, case capacity (capacity with bullet seated). All calculated case capacities can be transferred directly to cartridge loading for use in load calculations.

LOADBASE ver. 1.0
LoadBase 1.0 is a specific-purpose integrated software suite designed to help the centerfire metallic cartridge Reloader with the most common "information" tasks often involved in developing, analyzing, filing and searching of handloading data. Its scope is broad, as well its audience, being a valuable tool for competitive shooters, hunters, forensic experts, any anyone interested in this fascinating subject. This is a professional software, for serious users, who only want the best.

It is made up of 10 tools, including a comprehensive database, containing megabytes of useful information, a powerful Agenda, a professional Exterior & Interior Ballistics tools, and many other utilities, in this way closing the circle regarding the tools needed in the development cycle of Reloading and gun testing. All the hard-to-find parameters data needed to compare different loads is also included at the user's fingertips complemented with Reports, Graphs and Filtering features.

POINT BLANK COMPUTER RELOADING AND BALLISTIC SOFTWARE ver. 1.8a
Point Blank is a windows 95/98/NT/2000 based graphical reloading and ballistics tracking program. It tracks individual load data, results, and estimates external ballistics results. It is freeware and costs nothing.

POWLEY COMPUTER ver. 2.2
The Powley computer is a "slide rule" type device which is designed to allow you to pick the best IMR series powder for your rifle cartridge when certain parameters about the cartridge are known.

The original Powley computer was designed by Homer Powley some years ago before the advent of the microcomputer. It's slide rule form makes it somewhat slow to use and somewhat error prone. The purpose of POWVERxx.BAS is to eliminate the errors and to speed up the operation. With the original Powley computer, it could take almost 15 minutes to set up the calculations and recheck what you had done. Using a microcomputer, you could do at least 10 calculations for different cartridges AND get a ballistics print out too.

PROJEKTIL II
This is a neat program I just located in Germany. It is freeware and costs nothing.

This trajectory graph allows instant changes in scope height, sight angle, distant zero, and range up to 500 yards. Instantly reports bullet drop (path), remaining velocity and energy for any selected range up to 500 yards. Provides options for printing graphs or targets to a dot matrix or laser printer.

Re-Loader GOLD operates in high resolution graphics mode, providing the end user with a very attractive user interface. Fully mouse aware with push button operation.

RIFLE
RIFLEDOS.EXE and RIFLEWIN.EXE are rifle and pistol ballistic computer programs to aid in gun sighting, comparing calibers and loads and shooting at conditions of altitude and temperature. These programs are easy to use and offer insight into the technical problem of accurate gun shooting.

ROB'S RELOADING ORGANIZER
RRO is a combination reloading data storage and ballistics program. Some programs specialize in displaying ballistic information, with a limited ability to store specific information about your loads and the specifics about your firearms. Other programs concentrate on storing data, but still don't keep all the data you need if you are a "precision" reloader. Only a few try to do it both, and they have a complicated user interface while still not allowing you to store the data which is important to some reloader's. With RRO we have tried to give you more than a place to store your important reloading data and make ballistic computations. We have intentionally added the ability to store data that most programs don't; while keeping a simple user interface. RRO also has the ability to help you when creating a series of loads for testing new powders and bullets. RRO can even help you when testing loads for best free bore (jump to the lands) measurements.

RSI SHOOTING LAB DEMO ver. 2.0.0.21

No other software delivers the features of the RSI Shooting Lab in a single package.

The RSI Shooting Lab is fully integrated with features that make it easy to use. Information can be entered one time then accessed throughout the program with a simple mouse click. Its design is flexible, so you can customize the program for your own personal shooting needs, save files to disk, or export data for use with other programs.

UPDATE RSI SHOOTING LAB TO LATEST VERSION

SHOOT! DEMO ver. 3.0
DEMO Version Shoot! is a unique exterior ballistics program that makes use of graphics, not just tables of data, for easy interpretation and understanding of ballistic information. This approach to ballistics helps users of Shoot! in two ways:

1) Understanding ballistics is made easier because the data is presented in a format shooters and hunters can understand - on a target!

2) The learning curve is shortened and thus users can concentrate on making the most of the program to solve, explore shooting scenarios; not spending vast amounts of time understanding the program itself.

The interface of Shoot! was carefully designed for simplicity. There are very few controls and command buttons which eliminate confusion. Context sensitive help is available by pressing the F1 button any time the program is running.

THE SHOOTIST ver. 2.2.0
The Shootist Ver 2.20 Shooting software; calcs Recoil force, Hatcher's Stopping Power, etc. Another neat piece of software. Good Intro.

TRAG1S5 ver. 140
HORUS VISION offers the rifleman of this millennium TRAG1S5 -- A Digital Aiming Program for DeskTop & Laptop computers running Windows, designed to accurately indicate exactly where to hold with ultimate precision from 25 to 1000+ yards for your rifle, your scope, under your conditions, at the time that your are shooting, etc. No more "Kentucky Windage" or "Tennessee Elevation"! No more guesswork for your Point-of-Impact. This system is designed for the Horus Scope or any adjustable scope !

Simply enter this data into the TRAG1S5 and your holdover and windage adjustments will be calculated for any target at any distance!

TRAJECTORY PLOT ver. 2.4
The Trajectory Program calculates and plots the exterior ballistics curve for any bullet if the ballistic coefficient(s) is(are) known. A number of common bullets are included in the database included with the program. The user is able to add others as desired.

TRIGGER PULL ver. 2a
Trigger pull data search contains the single and double action trigger pull data from over 9400 firearms. This application allows for a search based on manufacturer, model, caliber, and firearm type and can help in determining the "normal" or "average" trigger pull of a recovered firearm.

ULTIMATE BALLISTICS ver. 4.5
Why he calls it "Ultimate Ballistics" I'll never know! It's slow, it's crippled, and it doesn't do a damn thing that any other ballistic program doesn't do ... AND HE KEEPS BEGGING FOR MONEY!!!

WINBALLISTICS ver. 1.2.16
WinBallistics is a program to calculate external ballistics for centerfire rifles. For the most part, it uses the equations described in the 4th edition of the Sierra Reloading Manual to calculate the bullet path after it leaves the barrel. It makes corrections for crosswind, ambient temperature, barometric pressure, elevation, and shooting angle. Using the default values for temperature, barometric pressure, and elevation with a shooting angle of 0° will give the values reported in most ballistics tables. The bullet path is displayed in tabular form showing velocity, energy, drop, drift, and distance from line of site for the selected distance intervals. Ballistic coefficients can be calculated from distance/velocity data supplied by some commercial ammunition vendors.

The program includes three tables that can be modified by the user. The first stores the ballistic coefficients for most of the Hornady and Sierra bullets. The second is empty as received but can be used to store the users loading data (including muzzle velocity) for each of the bullets in the first table. The third contains ballistic data for commercial ammunition. When a record in one of these tables is selected, the information needed for calculating bullet path or ballistic coefficient is entered in the appropriate place.

WINLOAD ver. 2.12
Based on Homer Powley's algorithms to calculate a load. This program calculates a load that will give a STANDARD PRESSURE of 45,000 psi in copper units of pressure (CUP).
